Parking Space:
To Get Or Not To Get
That Is The Question

From my desk in our new office, I can view the parking space reserved for me. I'm actually just waiting for top management to question me why I don't have a car parked in it yet, which could then eventually lead to me losing the spot, especially since most people in the office are parking their cars outside the building premises.

The truth is, I still haven't decided if I'll be availing of the car operating lease perk available to managers like me. One consideration is the operating expenses. Even with the gas card, there will be fuel, maintenance, and parking expenses (in case of night-outs). Not to mention the additional amortization on the car. Combine these with the expenses at home and mother's mounting medical bills, and you get reduced spending capacity. Still another consideration is the housing loan I got. The housing agency didn't approve the whole loan amount, so that means I will have to compensate forthe difference, out of my own savings. And considering the "speed" at which the agency releases funds while at the same time obligating me to finish the house construction within 6 months, I really need to draw from my savings to see this through. Further, there are the monthly amortization that I will be paying for the next ten years. Another (major) consideration, is that I don't know how to drive. So there's the need for driving lessions, if not a personal driver. Related to this consideration is the distance going to and from work, which is considerably long. There's also the stress from dealing with other scumbag drivers too.

It's fun to think of the possible models though. I've always wanted to own a Suzuki Vitara. Recentely, after hitching a ride with my friend Irene, I've taken a liking to the two-door Toyota Rav4. I also like the snobbish look of the Mazda 3. They sy though, that the benefit amount available to me is just enough for a Toyota Vios, give or take a few thousands. The model will definitely have to be a consideration since whatever I choose will be my "tie that binds" to the company for the next five years.
