On Idol
David Cook is now the American Idol.  Cool.  Although, when I watched the replay of the Finale last weekend, I would have to agree with Simon Cowell's remark that it was a "knock-out" for David Archuleta.  Cook's performance was too uneventful.  Wrong song choices too.  I liked "Dream Big", but definitely a Collective Soul song wasn't really a good finale song.  I asked my friend why Cook won, and she said "Coz he's hot".  Yeah.  How could I have forgotten the hotness factor in contests like these?  This is probably the AI season where I did not have that much strong preference on which of the Final 2 would win.  They're both very good and I like the genre of their songs.  I'm buying both their CDs when they launch it.

On Sale
I must say, I’m getting used to mall-wide sales.  The crowds used to bug me.  Now I can say I’m a bit tolerant of the sale-crazed crowd these days.  I actually look forward to sale announcements nowadays.  This is primarily because I can only allow myself to buy certain “luxury” items when malls offer them on sale.
One of these “luxuries” are new clothes.  For example, I would never allow myself to buy from G2000 if I don’t see a SALE sign outside their store.  That’s even if I consider this brand one of my favorite clothing lines based on what I’ve worn so far.  During the last 3-day sale at SM Megamall, I bought another casual Friday shirt from G2000.  Plus a cool t-shirt from Levi Strauss.  Plus a Pierre Cardin polo shirt from Cinderella.  You would never catch me buying new clothes from these shops on a regular “un-marked-down” day.  They’re simply just too expensive.
Another luxury item would be new pairs of shoes.  Almost all the pairs I have at the house were bought at marked-down prices.  My new pair, from Merrell, replaced my old rubber shoes I bought from the Great Singapore Sale (when my feet were a bit smaller).  I actually had to dissuade myself from buying another AND1 pair at the same time.  I’ll just come back for it in future sales.
The other luxury I can avail of during mall-wide sales is the splurging on original DVDs.  This is one of the things I really look forward to.  The prices are still way above counterfeit copies, but at least my “No To Piracy” policy is upheld.  I’m close to completing my CGI animated film collections: Cars, Monsters Inc., Monster House, etc. etc.  Heck, I even got a copy of “James and the Giant Peach”.  It’s just too bad I limit myself to only two thousand bucks worth of DVDs each sale event.

Stressed in a Barchow Cooking Class
A few Saturdays ago, I got confirmed to attend a cooking class sponsored by our company.  It was a barchow cooking class.  We had to cook seven dishes: buffalo wings, quesadillas, stuffed potatoes, and other finger food you serve in bars.
It was actually stressful even at the start when the chef was doing the demo of what to do.  Just watching him chop, peel, mash, fry, assemble, and plate the dishes made me tired.  And stressed.  Don’t get me wrong.  I can chop.  I can fry.  I can cook rice.  I’ve done it in all the times I was on assignment out of the country.  This cooking class was more than that though, because THIS entailed using and following, a RECIPE.  Lucky for me the actual cooking was done in groups.  Hehehe.  So I just helped out in the chopping, dredging, and deep frying.  I even had to flip a pan while frying the quesadillas. At the end of the class the groups enjoyed the dishes they prepared.  I’d have to say the dishes we made were good, based on fast the buffalo wings were decimated.
It was a tiring afternoon but fulfilling all the same.  If I was stressed then, I’d hate to see how I’d fare if I had been confirmed in the pasta cooking class or the Filipino native dishes cooking class I originally signed up for.  Now THAT would be stressful.  I haven’t really cooked any of the recipes I learned yet, since there’s no opportunity to.
